tracing light

Farnham Creates announces Tracing Light, three FREE events to be held the evening of Saturday 18 October 2008 from 6-9pm. Thanks to generous funding from Arts Council England South East, Farnham Creates has commissioned visual artist Tine Bech to create a light trail, a light installation and a light workshop to engage the local community in this exciting art form and eco-friendly form of street lighting.

The evening will begin with a Light Trail which runs between the Crafts Study Centre, New Ashgate Gallery and the Farnham Maltings from 6-8pm. On arrival at the Farnham Maltings’ Bridge over the River Wey, experience the new Interactive Streetlight Installation which will remain in place for several days. From 7-9pm at the Farnham Maltings participate in a Graffiti Light Workshop to make your own light work using the low LED technology of future sustainable street lighting. (Children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.)

Commenting on this project, artist Tine Bech said, "The aim of Tracing Light is to connect places and engage people. Light is a powerful substance. We have a primal connection to it. The aim of the Interactive Streetlight Installation, the Light trail and the Light workshop is to create a dialogue - a pulse – between the audience and the artwork and to make their experience an essential part of the work."

In 2009 a Light Project will be offered to area schools as part of a collaborative Arts and Science project led by the University for the Creative Arts and the University of Surrey. If you or your school is interested in taking part please contact Tine Bech at mail@tinebech.com.
