Farnham Creates…a community arts festival
10 May 2008 - £1
Following the huge success of the Maltings festival in 2006 and 2007, we’re doing it again this year, but this year it will be bigger and better!
Farnham Creates… a community arts festival will bring together all The best things about Farnham and showcase them over May. On the 10th May the Maltings and Farnham Town Council will kick off the celebrations, with a one day festival celebration. Activities will take place in every space of the Maltings Building from the Great Hall to the car park and will be extended into the town centre along Downing Street.
Come and enjoy a day of festivities, expect food and drink, live music, theatre & dance, children’s workshops, face-painting, fireworks, comedy, a barn dance and much more. This will be a real treat for everyone in our community and a great way of exploring the Maltings. The festival will start at 11am and finish with a grand firework finale at 10:30pm. In addition there will be a Craft Market, jazz band and performances along Downing Street from 10am – 4pm. BARN DANCE AND STAND UP COMEDY START @ APPROX 7:30PM.
Last year the festival was very well received by the 4,000 attendants, a local resident said ‘I have NEVER had so much fun and all for only £1.00.’
Downing Street will be closed to traffic between 7.30am and 9pm, but in order to minimize traffic disputes diversion routes will be clearly signposted to enter the town centre via the bypass.
This year Farnham Creates… a community arts festival will bring together the resources of four of the key cultural providers in Farnham: The Farnham Maltings, Crafts Study Centre, New Ashgate Gallery and University College for the Creative Arts for a month long celebration of arts and the Farnham community throughout May.
During May the group will deliver a wide ranging program of community exhibitions, workshops, talks, film, etc. The aim is to develop new audiences and venues whilst building on the strong sence of community within the town. We have commissioned an image for use in the publicity of the group and the May festival. The image will be used on posters, the program and partner websites during the. The commission will also form part of a long term objective to build an exciting body of work – New images of Farnham.
The Festival will be on Saturday the 10 May 11am to 11pm. For information on the program keep checking this website.
